Remote control boats, airplanes, cars and trucks are some of the most popular items of interest for hobbyists and kids alike. Today, RC vehicles are more than just toys. Serious enthusiasts spend a significant amount of money buying and accessorizing. Hobby shops and online retailers are experiencing a tremendous increase in sales as a result of the growing popularity of RC vehicles. If you are planning to enter this fun and exciting form of recreation, you need to learn how to choose the right remote controlled vehicle.
First, you need to know the size or scale of the remote control boats, airplanes, cars and trucks that you want. Scale actually represents the size or proportion of the RC vehicle in relation to real life boat, airplanes, cars, or trucks. For instance a 1:24 scale model of an RC fighter plane would mean that it is 24 times smaller than the actual plane.. The size or scale of your RC vehicle is important because it can affect fuel consumption or battery life.
You need to determine the type of fuel or power source for your remote control boats, airplanes, cars and trucks. Many RC vehicles enthusiasts or hobbyists typically go for models that run on rechargeable Ni-Cad batteries. This type of batteries can supply anywhere from 4.8 to 9.6 volts of electrical power. Then, there are RC vehicles that use Nitro or Gas much like their real life counterparts.
Lastly, remote control boats, airplanes, cars and trucks run on different types of engines. There are RC vehicles that are powered by electrical engines, while there are those that use motors that consume Nitro or Gas fuel. Remember it is your choice the remote control models that are powered by nitro, gas or electric engines. Your choice of engine that your RC model uses can directly affect its speed and overall power.

The fastest and most exciting category, gas powered remote control cars can go as fast as 50 – 60+ miles per hour. The 1/8 gas cars go 70 – 80 mph in racing competitions. Also called nitro Remote Control Car because the hobby fuel used contains nitro methane to increase speed and power. Popular are the 1/10 on-road nitro touring cars. For beginners, electric remote control cars are the best… easier to control, build, and maintain. There are even ready to run (rtr) models that sell for less than $100. But I would recommend better models such as the Redcat Racing. Great reviews have been posted in rc car forums. If you prefer playing or racing indoors or have limited space to play, there are small but fast micro and mini remote control cars. One of the hottest segment of the hobby, and companies are scrambling to produce their own mini remote control cars and trucks. For exciting dirt action, the 1/8 off-road gas remote control buggies are the fastest around an off road track. These 4×4 machines reach speeds of 40+ mph.
There are also 1/10 off-road electric remote control buggies for beginners.
There are electric RC cars too. Electric remote control cars can be used indoors and outside. Electric rc cars, trucks, helicopters which make amazing gifts for all ages. Whichever remote control car or rc truck you choose, you will not be disappointed.

With a bit of work and some ingenuity, you can create your own RC rock crawler track in your own backyard. Start by drawing out a course plan on a piece of paper. Clearly identify the obstacles you want in your course, such as mud pits, cliffs, and rocky terrain.
Clear the designated area of your backyard, then, start building up piles of dirt for the elevated sections of your course, and digging holes for the pits. Using dirt as the base will save you money on the amount of rocks you’ll need to purchase to fill in the course. Bricks, logs, and smaller boulders can be added to create a more challenging course. Finally, fill the water features and mud pits with water. Round up your friends, break out your RC crawlers, and have a blast racing over your custom course.

I recently read an article in my favorite RC magazine that outlined the prevailing RC trends. At the top of their list are touring cars. This may seem surprising because for several years the use of touring cars in the hobby had all but died. The magazine argues that the combination of competitive touring car clubs and high-profile releases, like the Traxxas Rally VXL, will buoy the hobby.
Other top trends in the world of RC cars include drifting and short course racing. Drifting looks incredibly cool and the equipment is generally inexpensive. The only drawback for many drivers is that it takes a lot of time to develop drifting skills. People who are looking for instant satisfaction will be disappointed. Short course racing is incredibly popular and is helping to grow the hobby and increase the sales of short course racing trucks.
