My father has always been a Mr. Fix-it. Growing up, it seemed as though Dad could handle any household problem. Roof needs re-shingling? Dad took care of it. Bathroom toilet needs replacing? Dad to the rescue! The only time I can recall a contractor working on the family home was when an extension was added to the house, and even then Dad was out there every day lending a hand or offering a piece of advice (to the contractor’s annoyance, I’m sure).

Now that we kids are grown there’s less things around the house that need fixing. My dad has begun to busy himself with building model World War II era airplanes, but he complains that there’s nothing to do with them when they’re done. An rc vehicle enthusiast myself, I told my dad he should look into rc helicopters and airplanes. He still gets to tinker with tools while building the aircrafts, but when they’re finished he can take them into the yard and enjoy flying them around the house. I’m not sure Mom loves the idea, but it keeps Dad happy!
